I’m Back!

Finished with the board exam step 3!  No more exams- I’m a fully licensed physician, provided that I passed (fingers crossed- won’t find out for 6-8 weeks!!  The agony!!)!  And I can finally get back to my life (outside of medicine)- reading interesting articles, exercising, painting, scrapbooking, etc.  Chris & I are at his parents’ house now for the weekend; we drove in today!  They live near D.C., so we are planning to check out the Cherry Blossom Festival while we’re here!  It’s wonderfully warm (mid-sixties) here, and flowers are blooming everywhere- it’s really spring!  Meanwhile, it snowed in Erie yesterday and this morning; I think this trip is going to be a much needed refuge from the unusually long wintery weather, even for Erie!

I began reading a book today by Nicholas Sparks called “The Wedding.”  I had purchased it about a year ago, but never had a chance to read it.  It’s an informal sequel to “The Notebook,” which is sweet, romantic, and sad all in one package.  (I made Chris watch the movie, and then we both were bawling!)  I had forgotten how much I love to read for pleasure!!  Textbooks and scientific articles have their place, but reading for pleasure is truly chicken soup for the soul.  I blazed through 3/4 of the book on the drive to my in-laws, and I cannot wait to finish it- it’s been more than 10 years since I was so enthralled with a novel that I wanted nothing more than to finish it within 24 hours!!

I have got to post about an amazing roasted chicken dinner I made on Tuesday while studying- but it may need to wait until later.  I can’t wait to post this recipe- it’s my favorite roasted chicken recipe yet!  And it comes with a killer brown rice (yes, KILLER brown rice) recipe…so as soon as I can upload the pics I will type up the recipe!  🙂

  1. Oh how funny, Michael is/was hooked on Nicholas Sparks, and he got me reading him too. He loves that his stories usually revolve around the outerbanks of NC, a place he loved while he served at Camp LeJuene. The Nights in Rodanthe house is on Top Sail Island (I think). Anyways.. congratulations on being finished with your boards! Now you can have a life outside of work! Love the recipes!

  2. Congratulations, Dr Lauren! We always knew you could do it! You did have some down times, but you always picked yourself up, dusted yourself off, and plowed on! We are so proud of you. Vicki
